At week #5, my greatest challenge in life so far has been…….. And I see my next major challenge being?

·         Becoming involved in football (because of my size), becoming a diver and going underwater

·         Figuring out how to use a compass, using what I have learned

·         Doing the homework involved with S.T.A.R.S., passing the final exam to become certified

·         Doing the homework involved with S.T.A.R.S., being Maurice’s dive buddy

·         Passing all of the S.T.A.R.S. quizzes with 100%, learn all the in-water skills required for scuba certification

As of Week #4, the things I value most in life are, and this is how I care for them.

·         My mom, grandpa, brother, sister, auntie, uncles, cousins.  I care for them because if I did not have them I don’t know how I could live my life.

·         Family, God, School, money…. pray.

As of Week #3 this is what causes me stress, and how I think scuba diving can help or add to my stress?

·         Being in the house too long stresses me.  Scuba diving with S.T.A.R.S. gives me something to do and somewhere to go.

·         Homework and tests stress me out the most because I always try my hardest and when I fail or mess up it stresses me.  Scuba diving with S.T.A.R.S. helps because when I am in the water I feel like playing because it reminds me of being at a water park.

·         Homework.  Participating in Scuba with S.T.A.R.S adds stress because it gives me homework, tests, work-outs, and we have to come and be on-time.

What excited our participants this week?

·         I learned that the more physical training I do the longer I can last underwater.  Now I want to do even more physical training!

·         I learned what to do in underwater emergencies.

·         When I learned how to put all the stuff on the tank… I became a little scared that the compass thing would blow up.

·         I learned that we cannot touch aquatic animals because they will hurt us.

·         I learned how much pressure the tank can hold.

·         I learned about the different kinds of fins that are used in scuba.

·         I learned if you touch an animal underwater it might get offended and hurt you or it might have a defense mechanism.

·         I learned that I was not going to break something.

·         I learned to be very cautious when I put the equipment together.

·         When I take some friends to watch me scuba dive I can look professional and stuff when I put my equipment together.

How does what I am learning about Scuba going to make me a better student in Week #2?

·         It helps me by keeping me away from bad behavior and also helps me stay focused during class.

·         It makes me a better student by learning to pay attention more and staying more focused.

·         It is helping me become a better leader.

·         All the team building activities we do are really great… they improve my communication skills.

·         When I get a challenge I never back away from it, and it challenges me.

·         All the work we do makes me better in school academics than I used to be.

Let me tell you how committed I am to fully completing the program in Week #1?

·         On a scale of 1 to 10, I am a 9.5!

·         I am committed as much as I can be.

·         I am taking the bus just to get to the program and if that’s not enough then tell me why I am doing a lot of this to go to the program!

·         I am so committed to this program that I barely have time to hang-out with my friends.

·         I am giving up most of my spare time to this program.

·         A lot, because I thought that the program was going to be hard.

What I like most about the planned activities in the 2011 S.T.A.R.S. program in Week #1?

·         Scuba diving and the chance to go to the Bahamas to dive.

·         All the pool time we get as I actually enjoy swimming and learning how to scuba dive.

·         The physical training, push-ups, and running we are doing.

·         The chance to be rewarded for doing better in school.

How I think the S.T.A.R.S. program can potentially improve my life in Week #1?

·         Improve my behavior, grades, and attendance because I need to work on those things.

·         The standards that S.T.A.R.S. holds me to encourages me to maintain good grades and behavior.

·         Improve my leadership skills.

·         It can potentially help me get a job as a rescue diver or something.

·         It can help me improve my grades and math skills.

·         I am now working towards something.. and knowing that I am not planning on having to go to summer school.

·         It changed my outlook because I am happy when I come home and not as lazy and bad.

A specific personal goal that I expect to achieve during my participation in S.T.A.R.S. International in Week #1?

·         Become an SDI certified scuba diver.

·         Become a better leader and learn new ways to lead people.

·         Learn a lot of stuff!

·         Be around to go on the S.T.A.R.S. scuba diving trip in July.

·         Be selected to help during next year’s program and teach the new kids how to swim and stuff.

·         Be at every class and improve my math skills.
